What I do — and what it costs, up front
Gas boiler serviceAnnual
£100 + VATA full boiler and system service to the manufacturer's requirements, including combustion and safety checks. Keeps the boiler safe and efficient, and keeps your warranty valid. The standard charge covers labour; seals and consumables are extra if they're needed.
LPG boiler service
£100 + VATFull boiler and system service to the manufacturer's requirements, for LPG-fired boilers.
Oil boiler serviceOFTEC registered
£160 + VATThe same full service, for oil-fired boilers. I'm OFTEC registered for oil work.
Back boiler & fire service
£100 + VATFull strip and clean of the heating appliance and fire front.
Gas fire service
£60 + VATGas fire serviced to the manufacturer's requirements. Labour only; consumables charged as required.
Gas cooker service
£50 + VATGas cooker serviced to the manufacturer's requirements. Labour only; consumables charged as required.
Landlord's gas safety certificateCP12
£30 + VATLandlord's certificate and gas tightness test — the annual legal requirement for rental properties. Each appliance is added to the price, as either a safety check or a full service.
Gas appliance safety check
£50 + VATChecks the appliance operates safely and is installed correctly, with any further work quoted before it's done. Note: this is an annual safety inspection, not a full service.
Breakdown diagnostic visitFault-finding
£95 + VATI come out, find the fault and tell you what it needs. After twenty years of breakdown work there aren't many faults I haven't seen. The charge covers the visit and the first hour's labour; parts and any further time are extra.
Labour
£75 + VAT / hourFor repairs and anything beyond the standard charges above. How long depends on the job — I'll tell you before I start.
Heat loss surveyBefore a new boiler
£250 + VATWorth doing before a new boiler goes in. I survey the house — walls, windows, ceilings, floors — and work out what heating output it actually needs, so you get the right size boiler rather than one that's too big or too small. The £250 comes off your installation invoice if the install goes ahead with us.
Boiler installationsGas · LPG · oil
QuotedReplacement and new boilers, sized properly for your home, with straight advice on what you actually need — not the most expensive box on the van. I'm OFTEC registered for oil installations too, including oil tanks and supply.

Before that I spent five years in the Royal Marines, then sixteen years with British Gas as a service and breakdown engineer — the one sent round when a boiler had died and the house was cold. Now it's just the two of us. My wife Becky runs the diary and the messages around her accountancy work, and I quote the jobs and do them. Whoever you deal with, it's one of us.
Every job gets done properly, explained in plain English, and certificated. "No-nonsense, open and honest workmanship" is on the van because it's how I work.
