Starting out...

Logan Smith

Hello! If you stumbled across onto my website welcome to a place where I will probably bore you with constant photos of what I do for a living! This page will be my personal little blog, where I would like to highlight the potential dangers of gas and carbon monoxide poisoning to the general public, due to the lack of servicing or proper attention to gas appliances.

I will not in no way be trying to stitch up or dress down other companies or engineers because that is just daft, but it would be nice to educate others on what should be expected as an industry standard.

So me personally I was raised by British Gas, I served 16 years with them as a service and repair engineer and for many years took the role of lead engineer in and around the area of west Wiltshire. I stepped away from British Gas due to personal reasons and wanting to work the way I think is right, both technically and for the customer. Sometimes it isn’t always about profit margins, some of us like to look back at the work we done and be proud of it, we like to see customers expectations exceeded not just satisfied.

So coming from a service and repair breakdown, my primary focus is repair and prolonging the life of gas appliances. Yes appliances need to be replaced, they all have a shelf life, but I hear horror stories of things getting ripped out and replaced way too prematurely. Some advisors/engineers want to roll like that and that’s fine, but sometimes customers just want a repair and that will be our aim to bring that repair to you at a cost effective price and efficient method of work.

Servicing properly is also important, a good thorough service will save you future breakdowns. If you ever wondered what a manufacturer expects to be done on one of their appliances take a look at your boilers manufacturers instructions, you might be surprised. Now it might not need to happen every year and every boiler is different but from time to time, you should expect a service where combustion seals are getting replaced, heat exchangers are washed through etc. That’s why at our little company we will ask you, before we book in a service, the make and model of your appliance, To make ensure we order any additional seals and components before we start and to help give you an accurate idea of what price you are looking at. Have you got a central heating filter? Is that getting cleaned every year? When was the last time someone took a water sample and checked inhibitor levels? Some engineers do and you won’t even realise, some however, won’t bother until it’s an issue and too late.

Smiths heating solutions do other things as well! We can install replacement boilers and gas appliances, we can work with warm air units, CPSU, unvented cylinders, LPG and soon (hopefully) be qualified as an OFTEC registered engineer and be able to work on oil. I am also happy to do minor plumbing works if required, so happy to change taps, toilets showers etc, happy to repipe and 1st fix as required.

I am not keen at this present time to get to heavily involved in installing bathrooms, just not really geared up for it, being completely honest now, there are a lot of really good people out there who would be able to offer a better and more effective service than myself and I would be quite willing to recommend them if required, however this may change in the future especially If i can’t get enough work as a heating engineer! 😂

So that is a brief intro for you, hopefully haven’t bored anyone to death so far and hopefully this site won’t all be about me, I would like to also share pictures of great work from others in this trade and other trades, and rightly so because it’s about advertising the right people, who do a great job, the public need to know who the good guys are! So stay tuned for daily exciting photos and updates from my personal perspective working in the best bona fide trade in the world!
